Uruguayan striker Suárez was rested due to a hamstring injury. A goal scored by Messi secured the 1–0 win and took the title from defending champions Atlético Madrid. Meanwhile, multiple FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo scored three goals against Barcelona based club Espanyol. But his hat-trick could not fetch his club, Real Madrid, the title, since F.C.
